Workplace-based Assessment

As a general principle, all doctors will be provided with conditional registration under supervision before undergoing an AMC-accredited workplace-based assessment. They will also be given assistance to ensure they have the health system, workplace and cultural orientation necessary to work successfully in the Australian health environment.

After successful completion of an AMC-accredited clinical skills assessment the overseas trained doctor will be granted conditional registration for the period deemed appropriate (usually 12 months with renewal required each year).

A Pilot Project (involving the Mini-CEX) will be undertaken at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital to achieve implementation of the processes associated with both the Competent Authority model and Transitional arrangements. The Pilot will develop a framework and model to provide a single methodology for the assessment of International Medical Graduates (IMGs).
