Relocating To Australia
Moving to another country can seem a daunting experience. One of the best places to start your research is on the Internet. Here you can find out everything you need to know about the town or city you're moving to, look for schools, and accommodation, find out about the weather, the customs and the lifestyle, the health system and much more.
Other things to think about include:
- finding out if your prospective employer offers relocation assistance;
- setting up an Australian bank account in advance;
- checking if Australian electrical currents are compatible with your major appliances;
- making sure you have current passports and relevant visas (remember children need their own);
- making sure you carry all small valuable items, vital documentation and prescription medicines in your hand luggage;
- taking a list of the contact numbers you will need when you get to Australia.
The Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs have outlined a general checklist of things that may be relevant for either yourself of your family on arrival in Australia. This checklist can be found in the booklet, Beginning a Life in Australia.
