Metropolitan Perth

Perth is Western Australia's capital city, which sits beside the widest stretch of the meandering Swan River. By living here, you will enjoy a relaxed outdoors lifestyle, as does the neighbouring port city of Fremantle, at the mouth of the Swan River.

Of Western Australia's nearly 2 million people, approximately 1.5 million live in the capital city of Perth.

Goldfields and South East Region

The Goldfields South East Region is located in the south eastern corner of Western Australia and is the largest region in WA. The Region includes diverse towns such as Kalgoorlie-Boulder, the centre of the Goldfields and Esperance, a fishing town on the southern coast.

Great Southern Region

The Great Southern Region is approximately 40,500 square kilometres in area. The majority of the people live in the main towns of Albany, Denmark, Katanning and Mount Barker. The main industries in the region are agriculture, fishing, forestry, mining, tourism and viticulture.

Kimberley Region

The Kimberley Region of Western Australia is the State's most northern region. The coastline faces the Indian Ocean to the west and the Timor Sea to the north and is bordered by the Great Sandy Desert in the south and the Northern Territory in the east.

The geography of the Kimberley region includes arid desert areas, gorges, sandy beaches, escarpments, rainforests, waterfalls, vast open plains, and river valleys and cave systems.

Midwest and Murchison Region

The Population of the Midwest and Murchison Region is concentrated along the coast with more than 70% living around Geraldton-Greenough.

The Midwest area includes the coastal towns of Dongara, Kalbarri and Northampton which are relatively close to Geraldton and a number of inland agricultural towns including Mullewa, Three Springs, Morawa, Perenjori, Enneabba, Mingenew and as far inland as Yalgoo. The Murchison district is clearly remote and inland and has one hospital based in Meekatharra, which is also the region base for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Pilbara and Gascoyne Region

The Pilbara and Gascoyne Region incorporates pastoral and mining communities together with coastal communities that have strong fishing and tourism industries.

The main population centres of the Pilbara and Gascoyne Region include Carnarvon, Port Hedland, Karratha, Exmouth and Newman, with smaller communities located at Denham, Gascoyne Junction, Burringurrah, Monkey Mia, Useless Loop, Coral Bay, Onslow, Newman, Tom Price and Paraburdoo.

South West Health Service

The South West Regionfaces the Indian and Southern Oceans in the south west corner of the state, and is only a short two hours drive from Perth. The towns within this region include Bunbury, Busselton, Collie, Manjimup, Harvey, Margaret River, Donnybrook, Bridgetown.

Wheatbelt Region

The Wheatbelt Region forms an arc around most of the metropolitan area, excluding the southern metro area. Aptly named for it's traditional industry, the Wheatbelt also has a diverse geographic profile ranging from pristine beaches to vast agricultural landscapes. The economy is based around the production fields of agriculture, fishing and mining, which are supported by the high availability of infrastructure such as water, transport and energy. The Region includes Merredin, Moora, Narrogin and Northam.
