Living and Working in WA: An Orientation Manual for Overseas Trained Doctors Working in WA's Public Hospitals

At 1 July 2008, there are new processes in place for overseas trained doctors (OTDs) and international medical graduates (IMGs) wishing to work in the Western Australian medical system.

This website has been designed to provide information for doctors who are interested in working as doctors in Western Australia and who have obtained their primary medical qualification outside of Australia.

The information contained on this website has focused on providing a brief overview of the main issues that surround the recruitment and appointment of overseas trained doctors in Western Australia. Additionally a number of links are provided to assist in accessing information from the relevant organisations, so that detailed and up to date information can be found.

As part of the Commonwealth of Australian Governments (COAG) health reform initiatives, the Department of Health Western Australia has been working with the Commonwealth Government towards phasing in nationally consistent assessment processes for overseas trained doctors.

Current information is available regarding the Nationally Consistent Assessment Process and the Competent Authority Pathway. A link to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the AMC website.
